SEWER PROJECTS For more than 40 years, Hornor Brothers Engineers has been involved in the design and construction of storm and sanitary sewers. Today, adequate collection, treatment and disposal systems for wastewater continue to be ongoing concerns. These systems are expensive necessities whose cost can vary considerably with engineering design. The Federal Clean Water Act of 1972, which initiated an effort to clean up our environment, has directed that all cities, towns and industries take affirmative steps toward eliminating the discharge of untreated sewage into our streams and rivers. Most larger cities have since come into compliance with this regulation. It has now fallen the responsibility of the smaller communities to do the same. Unfortunately, in 1990, the Environmental Protection Agency's construction grants program for federally funded wastewater collection and treatment systems was eliminated. It was replaced with a low interest State Revolving Fund (SRF) loan program which has proven to be an effective funding source for many communities. This has challenged the engineering community to develop and employ more cost-effective means of collection and treatment of wastewater through alternative and innovative technology. Hornor Brothers Engineers is committed to meeting this challenge in serving the needs of the client. The firm's expertise in this field includes feasibility studies, facility planning, design, construction inspection, project management and start-up. The following are brief descriptions of several projects that are either current or recently completed for which Hornor Brothers Engineers performed these services. All are in West Virginia: |
